Digg Effect: Traffic Analytics Breakdown
Friday marked my first ever homepage Digg. Interestingly enough it was from an entry that I posted back in January. Better late than never I guess.
First of all I’d like to give some props to Godaddy. I know they’ve got a lot of bad press lately in the blogsphere and they probably deserve it. However, my blog’s hosted on the GoDaddy economy plan and it never once went down from the Digg effect that I know of, and I watched it closely. I pay $4 a month for the plan, not bad. I’ve still got plenty of bandwidth to burn.
So what does the traffic breakdown from the Digg effect look like.
All these numbers are from a weekend Digg, from what I understand the traffic is much higher if you get Dugg during the week. Before the Digg the average uniques per day on this blog was about 100.
Unique Visitors
Friday Digg: 4570 Total: 5473
Saturday Digg: 5525 Total: 8190
Sunday Digg: 1204 Total: 2782
Today Digg: 471 Total: 1247
Digg Total: 11,770 All Total: 16,692
Notable Referral Sources
Getting Dugg results in all sorts of other links, trackbacks, bookmarks, etc etc. I’ve noticed as the Digg traffic has slowly been dying down other referral sources are staying pretty steady. The post was also the top of Delicious popular for a full 24 hours, that was pretty cool.

The effect resulted in apox 40 new comments on the entry including trackbacks.
Technorati rank moved from 350,000 to 150,000, though many of the links have been counted yet so I assume that will continue to rise.

The amount of traffic that comes from Digg is insane, I can only image what’s it’s like during the week. The amount of backlinks the site’s got from a result will definitely help with search engine rankings, I look forward to that. I’ve never really focused on trying to optimize this blog as was initially intended for personal and client use, but now with this kickstart I think I will put some effort in those areas.
I have to say the Digg effect is a pretty fun experience. It’s really quite cool to know that many people found the entry good enough to recommend, I’m glad it was helpful as that was it’s purpose. Watching Digg Spy was pretty fun, basically you can see in real time as people are digging your site (or saying it’s lame). Hopefully this will result in a much higher avg uniques per day as this continues to wear off. I look forward to being Dugg again in the future.

That’s so cool! Congradulations. I really liked that post too.
Thanks Dawn. By the way, I like the new theme on your blog. Do you put a new one on there everyday or something?
lol. Not everyday. I change it usually monthly. But I have never had a theme with my picture on the header before so I think I will keep this one for awhile.
Great post, I love the statistics.
