Joining ACS

I’ve recently become a partner at Advantage Consulting Services where my official title will be Director, Marketing & Design. I’m very excited about working with the guys at ACS and we’re planning some great things. ACS is one of the few search engine marketing companies that truely ‘get it’.

I’ll also be blogging over at Pronet Advertising, ACS’s blog, where Neil Patel is currently holding down the fort. I’ll still be blogging here as well.

One Click Easy

What makes MySpace and You Tube so popular?

YouTube and MySpace are runaway hits because they combine two attributes rarely found together in tech products. They’re easy to use, and they don’t tell you what to do.

The Article is a great read. It says, MySpace and You Tube are popular because…

1) Everything is one click easy.
2) They get out of the way and the let users do what they want.
3) No extra software to install.

One of the most basic rules of usability is don’t make you users think. Everything should be obvious and it just needs to work without making your users think.

Make everything one click easy.

Google Trends

Google Trends launched today. You can compare the search volume of up to five different keyphrases. It also displays how frequently the term shows up in Google News stories and what regions search the most for the particular keyphrase.

I’ve been playing with Google Trends for much of the day and it’s amazing the wealth of information you can get from it. It’s very interesting to see which keyphrases are gaining popularity and which are losing it.

This is definitely a must have in the tool bag for any SEO or Marketer.

I’m Bored of Web 2.0

I’m obviously not the only one that’s noticed the lack of anything exiting coming from the Web 2.0 world lately.

Reading TechCrunch, Mashable and so on has lately become less exciting for me. The Web 2.0 list is massive - and there are many people bringing out similar sites and services.

Is it all the hype we’ve built around web 2.0 or is the lack of anything new coming out? I’m not sure but it’s getting old fast.

Anyone else ready for Web 3.0?
