My Top 5 Social Media Tools
I’ve been tagged, by Will McInnes. The meme is for the top 5 social media & blogging tools.
My top 5 social media tools are…..
1) del.icio.us
2) Digg
3) Bloglines
4) Techmeme
5) Akismet
1) del.icio.us - I use delicious more for search than I do for bookmarks. I actually use Blinklist for all my bookmarking, but I’m thinking of switching back to delicious. Blinklist is just too much for my needs, I miss the simplicity of delicious. Anyways, I love using delicious for search and wrote about it here.
2) Digg.
3) Bloglines - I’ve tried a number of different feed readers and I always come back to Bloglines. It’s simple and provides me everything I need in a feed reader, now if I could just convince all the blogs I subscribe to to offer full feeds instead of partial I’d be set.
3) Techmeme - This is a great one for finding popular posts that are happening in the blogsphere. I come across so much useful news and often participate in the conversations that are taking place. If I can’t think of anything to blog about, Techmeme is the place I visit first.
4) Akismet - Figured I better throw at least one blog tool in here. Akismet has saved me so much time it’s amazing. There’s been days when I’ve got over 1000 spam comments, and guess who catches them all? I think out of the 20,000 or so spam comments that Akismet has caught there’s only been a handful that have slipped through the cracks. Oh, and if you leave a comment on my site and it never shows up, for some crazy reason Akismet caught it. I don’t check the comments it catches anymore, there’s simple too many and I never noticed any legit ones.

[…] I’ve been tagged by Cameron Olthuis. The meme is for the top 5 social media & blogging tools. Well most of this new social media enables people to rendezvous, connect or collaborate through computer-mediated communication and to form online communities.Online communities exist because the wisdom of crowds mentality: A lot of people are smarter than one. Social network services allow people to come together online around shared interests or causes. For example, some sites provide dating services where users will post their personal profiles, blah blah blah. You know the deal. Some sites allow users to post their list of bookmarksâ€â€or favorite websitesâ€â€for others to search and view. The object is for people to meet others with whom they share a common interest and find more stuff they might like. Examples include digg, del.icio.us, shdaows, furl and spurl. That is where I am going to focus my attention for the time being. That would make my list of Top 5 look something like: […]

BlogTV - The next genereration of social media
I have been hearing the hype about BlogTV for many months now. But as the British say in the famous Tea commercial “Only in Canada, Pity”. For you Americans on my list you will have to wait.
But for those Canadians wanting to check it out you can go to http://www.blogtv.ca for details. It is in beta so possibly you will see some hiccups but from what I have seen they are minor. So get out your webcam or video phone and have fun.
