Your Google Top 10

Why is it that so many companies wait until the bad results already show up in Google before they start managing their reputation? They should be hitting this stuff the minute it’s published. It’s much easier to manage “Your Google Top Ten” if you do. Although it’s just as important to respond immediately, regardless of Google.

unfortunately, there’s usually some kind of crisis before they commit any resources… i don’t think most pr depts of traditional companies have a search and blog reputation management strategy because they see no need for it. .. however, if the online community can reach out and educate them now, then the crisis can be avoided.

Rick, you’re right, unfortunately there usually does need to be some kind of crisis before these companies will take action. However, I think with the direction that social media is headed they have no choice now but to monitor their reputations 24/7. If they don’t the minute one of these companies pisses someone off they’ll tell the whole world about and the companies won’t be able to respond in time to prevent a major crisis. Take Comcast and AOL for example.
