Blahbuster

I love it when big companies get called out for having a crappy online marketing strategy (Blockbuster).

I’d also like to add that their natural seo sucks; if you’re a company like Blockbuster how the hell do you let someone like DVD Avenue out-rank you? I bet I could fix that problem in about 5 minutes. Blockbuster, if you’re listening here’s a freebie: put your main “money keyword” in your title tag. Replacing parts of that image with real text wouldn’t hurt either, in fact just recode the entire HTML, it’s awful. Sometimes I wonder how some of these people still have jobs.

This would also be a good time for Blockbuster to respond if they’re monitoring their buzz. We’ll watch the original post to see if there’s a response. I’ll keep you updated.

Your Google Top 10

Why is it that so many companies wait until the bad results already show up in Google before they start managing their reputation? They should be hitting this stuff the minute it’s published. It’s much easier to manage “Your Google Top Ten” if you do. Although it’s just as important to respond immediately, regardless of Google.

After the Buzz

There was a meme going around last week that suggests new web companies are only targeting an audience of 53, 651 people, which is actually the number of RSS subscribers TechCrunch had at the time.

A good review in Techcrunch can get a company their first 5-25K beta users very quickly.

I have to admit from what I’ve seen this tends to be true. A lot of these new 2.0 startups think all the need to do is launch, get TechCrunch to write about them, and they’ll spend the rest of their days sipping mai tai’s on the beach in Hawaii somewhere. Wrong!

Google Trends

Google Trends launched today. You can compare the search volume of up to five different keyphrases. It also displays how frequently the term shows up in Google News stories and what regions search the most for the particular keyphrase.

I’ve been playing with Google Trends for much of the day and it’s amazing the wealth of information you can get from it. It’s very interesting to see which keyphrases are gaining popularity and which are losing it.

This is definitely a must have in the tool bag for any SEO or Marketer.
